Swedish Supreme Court of Justice decision
October 21, 2005 - The Supreme Court of Justice in Stockholm has declined the requests submitted by the Romanian authorities stating that Gregorian Bivolaru “cannot have a fair trial in Romania” and “might be inflicted serious persecutions due to his religious beliefs”.

On the 24 th of March 2005 Mr. Bivolaru requested asylum in Sweden.
On 11 April 2005 the Romanian Ministry of Justice requested the Swedish authorities to extradite Mr. Bivolaru on the basis of the existing arrest warrant. The authorities issued under great secrecy a second warrant on 15 April 2005 and a second extradition request.
The Supreme Court of Justice in Stockholm has ruled on the extradition request submitted by the Romanian authorities against Gregorian Bivolaru.
Gregorian Bivolaru was granted political asylum in Sweden.
